Kutima Ranch is actively involved in the development of the community it operates through projects and social responsibility activities. The ranch’s initiatives include education, employment, sports and community schemes.
Kutima Ranch’s longevity and consistency is due to its entrenchment in the local community. Taita-Taveta’s largely arid landscape provides few opportunities for the residents. Kutima Ranch acquires 90% of its workforce locally. The ranch trains, equips and employs the local community to cater for the livestock breeds.
The ranch is exploring the possibility of setting up a meat processing & packaging facility that will sell beef, locally and for export, thereby providing more employment opportunities. Kutima Ranch has dug boreholes on its property that are accessible to the neighbouring community at highly subsidized rates in an area where water scarcity is prevalent.
To empower the younger generations in the community, Kutima Ranch has been involved education and sports projects. Through a partnership with Classic Gems, Kutima Ranch built Dighai Primary school which has provided an avenue for the children in the local community to easily access education, in line with UN’s Millennium Development Goals.
Kutima Ranch’s involvement with youth development includes the sponsorship of a local club, Dighai FC, which plays at the grassroot level of Kenyan football. The programme developed a football field and donated sports equipment to aid in the growth of the game locally. The next phase of sports advancement in the community will see the launch of Kutima Cup, which will provide more alternatives for the youth to grow their talents.
